The truck life is finally here! She's a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L Flex Fuel, bought it with just under 117k miles, completely stock. Interior is immaculate, doesn't need much work other than some new brakes and brake fluid (getting that done tomorrow). I already replaced the stereo so I can jam from my phone (perks of working at Best Buy lol). I got the oil changed and tires rotated the other day. Carfax is clean on it. Corporate fleet truck for the first few years of its life then the second owner had it for 14 years. I get a feeling it was an elderly gentleman who owned it. Runs really strong, nice steady idle, ice cold a/c, warm heat, rides comfortably. Next to buy is some tie downs and ramps and turn my 8 into a track monster Let me know what you guys think!

I looked at a few before buying my frontier, but they are all beat to shit up here in the northeast. Good trucks, just big enough to carry bikes but not big enough to suck as a daily driver. I wish there was a modern, cheap, equivalent.

Atta boy Jake.
That is a great truck. I (we) wife and I had one way back and it was a workhorse. Hauled the race bikes,. jetskis and more of other peoples stuff than I care to admit.
Great to see you having a set of wheels under you so you can fearlessly fiddle with the 8 to your hearts content and not worry about commuting.

I think I got the luck of the batch for a used truck that old - most around here are beat to shit as well. A guy at O'Reilly's told me they're making a new Ford Ranger actually! I can't remember if it's for this year or next year. You should look into it!

D Hahah I have a bad feeling I'm gonna get a few phone calls from friends. "Hey my bike is broke down, wanna give me a life?!" I still need to get ramps and tie downs though. I'm hoping I'll get well over 200k with the truck! I appreciate it brotha. Once I get all the smaller maintenance stuff done with my truck, I'm gonna start tinkering with engine mods and such with the 8.

I have to say, it is right sized for more that many people want to admit. I loved driving the Ranger. It was a longbed, so two bikes, a couple fuel bottles and tools fit nicely in the bed. !! GET A CABLE LOCK FOR YOUR SPARE TIRE !!. God knows why, but people love to steal them. I guess it is because they have that chain hoist mechanism and they are easy to pirate in a matter of seconds and it can be done silently.

It seems like it even though I'm not ready to grow up haha I was DEFINITELY ready for a truck though I'll have to talk with Billeigh soon when I have the funds to turn my 8 into a track beast.

Yeah I haven't looked too much into it yet but from what I heard, it's gonna be an awesome comeback for the Ranger. I was hoping for a long bed but I really wanted the extended cab so I'm happy with the standard bed size. I'm gonna see if the 8 will fit in it at an angle so I can close the tailgate. If not, I have the extended cab for cargo/tools when I go on trips or track days. I'll be sure to pick up a cable lock on Friday when I get paid - good call, thank you! Do you recommend a good spot to secure it so it's not visible but easy enough to take off and put on if I ever needed to?

Want to get out there and have fun without having to rip up the 8? Locate a slightly used (a gently crashed CBR500 R or F) - insurance companies total them if there is a claim and bodywork is involved. Buy as a salvage title, register it as either non operational or competition use ($20.00 a year - if Florida even requires that) (you arent going to ride it on the street anyway, you dont insure it or declare it under homeowners insurance) You can either replace the bodybits with aftermarket or just clean it up. Those are a fantastic platform to learn track skills on. Very hard to kill, virtually no maintenance except fluids and chain. Very easy on the wallet on all accounts (tires, fuel, parts), a very forgiving machine and a cheap way to track. Here is a link to a salvage site in FL (You can pick up bikes for as little as $150.00 for a 2014 - 2017 with low miles, just a tipover) www.salvagebikesauction.com/make_by/Salvage-HONDA-for-SaleGet into it young man. Or just buy leathers and ease your way in on the 8. Go at your own pace and enjoy the experience, no need to try and break records to enjoy the track

Holy crap. Can you really buy those bikes for as cheap as they're showing on the web page?!?! I just saw a 16 fz07 for $60?!?! Its a crap shoot but often yes. The perfect storm is a less that 2 year old machine. One that you can hold your bid till the last possible second. There are scrappers and salvagers that frequent. But in some states, they cannot repair a bike under insurance with used parts. That is your golden ticket.. It may take a few tries but it is doable. But be prepared to do some work. DG
