Honda - built to work Yammy - solid built at budget Beta - A KTM in disguise BMW - Refinement, expensive KTM - Performance, a riders bike
As for cars, I'm a fan of Toyota, Honda and anything that has a history of relibility and is functional. Much the same as my bikes.

Yamaha = bang for buck power and reliability in a basic trim package. Some find this fun to mod and make their own.
Suzuki = reliable but limited cool bike selection. Much is too this or that aka underpowered, or heavy, or ugly designs.
Kawasaki = bang for buck trim package and hard parts in breaks and suspension. Engines always interesting, long tradition of quality and power.
Honda = traditional reliability and rider experience. Surprising quality and finishing touches up close, even though gets a so so rap on looks and finish quality.
All big four Jap brands come with heritages to back up their bikes and a rider can't go wrong choosing one brand over another, there is so much quality variety and price points out there that discussions mostly end up opinion based.
Italian brands: Ducati, Aprilia, MV Augusta ... heaps of money for red bikes. No other colors sold. Fast shit, expensive money buys expensive repairs and mods. If you own one, more power to you.
BMW: bland liner reliable and costly. Most bikes are behind the times on everything besides technology (I'm talking weight to power ratio sans S1000R and RR). Some new offerings beginning to make sense aka that G310R.
KTM: toss USA Beta here too - agree with previous posts. Riders bikes. Wicked power, strangely light and nimble. Ultra cool factor (personal opinion). Not for beginners seriously don't start on a KTM.
Gas gas and Husqvarna- awesome stuff keep it coming. Dirt all stars behind KTM.
Everything else - including American hogs not as shitty as non- fan boys say. But still, though. They aren't quite par, would still ride several choice models since I peronsally have not owned one or ridden any. Triumph for example, would try a modded to shit Thunderbird variant or their street bikes.
Hope you enjoyed reading my opinions on some brands, great topic!
