So for the old crew, you'll know some of us were Aussies and what sorta riding we were doing before it got quiet in here. Figured I'd kick this thread off with the bike stuff I've been doing since last being active in here and with any luck, more Aussies will join in and stick up a few words and pics. Where to begin... well I think last time I was active in here I'd bought a second hand 1200gs and still had my Beta 480. I'll try and insert pics of them later, none on my phone. - The GS in the second pic was mine, I sold it to a mate. Short story is I kept braking the GS and the Beta was stolen. I had a pretty tough time with the insurance payout so while I waited for that I needed a bike so picked up a cheap DR650.... that ended up going on a handful of rides before I threw it down a ravine and bent the subframe. I got it out and home, took a few weeks to sort out but it was never 100% again. Rode it till the insurance paid out then sold it off... to upgrade to what I thought was a more fit for purpose light weight dual sport/adventure bike, a 2007 KTM 625sxc.

Good fun brother. Love all of it. I ride wide open spaces then I see your fuel tank and realize no the fuck I don’t.

Good fun brother. Love all of it. I ride wide open spaces then I see your fuel tank and realize no the fuck I don’t. In all honesty, it's 10 litres to much. If I built another DR I'd put the 20 litre acerbis tank on it. It's not a bad bike for the riding I do but like all dualsport/adv bikes, it's a compromise. Cheap was key factor but it's not great on the big high speed blacktop and it's a handful when it tightens up in the bush. But, with the suspension mods, it does hang with faster bikes offorad.

Yeah you had that thing sorted pretty quickly mate.
Less cops on the dirt. Most of our good roads are heavily patrolled by cops with radar these days. Just keeps you looking for them rather than concentrating wholly on the next turn.
Perfect world I'd have 3 bikes. Lightweight 350 4 banga for enduro work. Mid weight ADV/Dual sport to travel light and fast weekends away. And a big rig like a 1290/1200 for bigger trips and those big high speed dirt/gravel roads we have.
Although with KTM bringing out the 790 and Yamaha the Tenere 700, maybe a mid sized ADV bike and an enduro would do the trick? I'm looking less and less at the technical single these days and more at a good mix of flowing twin track and forestry riding.

Gotta get you blokes into this off-road adventure type riding in-between rebuilds and race days. You guys have some great offroad touring between you and the northern end of NSW.

Light weight, big power and Japanese is the way to go off road for me. Germans talk a great bike but they break a lot allways have.
