so I run a 750 Gixxer K5 on the track - woolwich ECU tuned - Yoshi pipe - modded suspension - dunlop slicks - etc which I really enjoy riding. Jubby runs an Aprillia RS250 2T which is as different as you can imagine, lighter, smaller, faster in parts of every track, and fun, fun, fun.
Over the the last year or so we visited tracks together and realised the massive difference in both bikes but realising both are amazing in different ways so we determined a mission that to make the most of every track day available, we would both need one of each bike. This is not easy to acheive when wives are requesting new kitchens and external landscaping, holidays to Europe etc, but not wanting to be outdone we hatch a plan which will take time to mature but doable.
We already know a guy in NSW who is good for Aprillia RS parts and occasionally turns up a full bike. This is the start of the RS hatch. Meantime a very sharp eye and lots of hours are spent trawling bike sites and Facebook groups for a Gixxer that needs attention - attention enough to buy the bike at a bargain price.
more to come but at this stage I will say between then and now - we have the bikes in the workshop being prepped !!!!!!

Irish Andy, our goto for RGV & RS bits was contacted for parts updates unbeknown to us at exactly at the right time as he informed - Guys "I am looking to sell everything including my track RS as I have bought some land and need some quick money" well being a couple of fellas always looking for a bargain our response was "How much" - well I have 3 large box's of parts inc body, engine, & frame. The track bike with new slicks, a worked top end, new chain & sprockets and goes like the clappers - negotiations complete and a deal done with this arriving a short time later
Opening the box's and realising Santa either came early or late this year. Incredible mix of parts for the RS and for the RGV's which are in various stages of rebuilds and the bike looks worthy of pushing Jubby's RS into record lap time performances. - time will tel as the barrels and heads are still away being "worked" (I must follow this up ) really looking forward to firing this thing up and will update when it happens. So that's how part one of the hatched plan concluded - result is two RS Aprillia 250's but still only one Gixxer - stay tuned

If Jubby is good at anything it's finding bikes or spotting bikes for sale before anyone else does, only this time I happened to be looking when an add came up for crashed GSXR 600 K6 with only 16k Klms covered. The photos reveal the damage and the asking price. Bike is about 4 hours drive away. I call the guy and engage in conversation about severity of damage and it turns out a low speed low side down the right. Most damage superficial, broken plastics, footrests, mirrors but because of some ridiculously oversized Oggy style frame sliders not just mounted with a replacement engine bolt but these also used a bracket, a very strong bracket designed to sit across the width of the frame and this is reason for the frame damage you can see in the pic above. There is a slight crack in the frame actually in the dent but it doesn't look major, I guess I just have to keep my eye on it but the sectional tube frame is very strong and I don't want to change it unnecessarily. I bought the bike anyway for a greatly reduced price so now we have the bikes we planned,
Work begins in earnest and the bike is pulled to pieces for further observation and a replacement parts list begins to draw itself on the white board. Fibreglass kits for fairing repairs. Rearsets Front brake master cylinder, reservoir kit. Oil & filter, Brake fluid Top fairing Top fairing bracket Exhaust Fork oil for steering damper Will post some pics of strip down
Quick run down on the gixxer, forks massively out of alignment, frame damaged?, fairings fucked, master cylinder front fucked, fault light on dash, set valve motor fucked, probably more I have forgot... also a big unknown until ridden how this bike was going to ride, straight, bent, pulling to one side under brakes, who knows.
All the little stuff got done during the day but wont bore you with coolant change and flush, oil change etc,
So the day started pretty normal... Let the old boy throw his glasses and have a crack at the fiddly stuff whilst I get in his ear about how much of a good idea it is to get on the piss now (9.30am) so this shit becomes easier. I ignore his bullshit (wise experience) about why we should hold back until the technical stuff his done bearing in mind we are doing new brake lines, master cylinders, rear sets. After about all of ten mins he gives up and cracks a beer.
Now after two swigs I get back onto how useless he his for looking at instructions and to give me the fucking rear sets and i'll sort this shit out in t 2 beers time. Again after ten mins he gives me one side - the rear brake side because he wants to feel important doing the gear shift side. "Whatever man I'm off up the shed, fuck knows why you are doing this here" "good point" he says "the bike is up there". That is a "good point" I say "but i was only concerned that my beer was running out and the fridge was up there".
The poison of choice for the day was from that renowned brewing country of KOREA....YES FUCKING KOREA... it was cheaper than the usually cheap mind bending piss we drink and thought if we drank enough we would still end up twisted.
So the technical stuff began again and I thought of another good idea and seen as though it is crazybollox birthday why not share a spliff. Now take in mind none of us are regular smokers maybe once every two years or so when the opportunity arises. We knew we was going to wrecked so I had to convince the wise old man that getting baked was another great idea of mine. Again about ten mins later he accepted defeat and got on board.
First there was a few checks to be done. Lets make sure the bikes runs before we fuck anything up... knowing that later in the piece we was going to be fucking with the ECU and set valve removal from the exhaust.
As you can see everything was fine having a lovely father and son day in the shed with beers on the old boys birthday. The bike was getting a couple of experts working on her all was to be well.
Well.... the rears ets went on well time to start on the front master cylinder as the OEM one was fucked from crash.
but before any of that the old man needed to relive is battered and shrunken liver from years abuse - fair to say things were hotting up inside our skulls. My thinking cap came on and I had another fantastic idea......
After giggling and some stories being told of how that trick has been played to numerous people we both know and how it ended up - good times.
Well back to work. Its kicked in an everything is slowing down and our concentration is at maximum....you can hear the effort taking to see what the fuck is going on.
the laughs were coming very hard and less and less work was being completed but more stories and tears laughter and beer was getting done proper.
So finally after most of the day had passed it was ride time. Prior to this we had a multiple of issues that really shouldn't have been issued. The old boy was right and wise to say we should have done this sober however that is not how all my bikes have been built so it wasn't about to start.
Had an issue where the bike wouldn’t start after I cut wire 30 in the ECU which was supposed to be the set valve wire…this was supposed to clear the F01 fault on the dash. After I cut the wire the bike wouldn’t start for a while.. I checked the pin number it was right, checked the fuel yes it was enough to start the bike. Turned the ignition just lights and no fuel pump working… What the fuck… I suspected maybe we popped a fuse. Kept looking following the wire to see what was up… couldn’t work it out. Then dad decided to take the lead. after a few fuckoff mate your blind on any good day never mind now etc comments he jumped in with glasses an all with throwing verbal abuse about cataracts and colour blindness when you get old. Anyway EU fucking REKA he found the problem – We had not yet plugged the ECU back in and it fired up fine…yes we was a wreck but it was funny.
SO after a very unproductive day on the bike but a very productive day for the memory bank between father and son the women had arrived back at the house so it was time to close the shed and spend some time with the kids and family and really get crazybollox birthday started.
My family slept at his house the night. We got up had breakfast and I had to set about my day leaving crazy to finish the plastics etc.
The below was the finished article.
TRACKDAY booked for 22nd April and I will be taking the 600 and the 250cc two stroke. Cant wait.

HAHAHA fuckin great mate. I just love days in the workshop with you as no matter how many times we do it i never know what the day will bring !!!!plenty of bikes left to go at so more good days ahead. funny as fuck two race bikes blasting down walkers lane, loud as fuck with two riders been on the piss and blow (no one ever on walkers lane apart from tractors and other track bikes) speed testing two tuned to fuck gixxers - ahhhh good times (:-) !!!!!!
Fantastic!!! You nutballs have a proper race shed going there. That is the stuff of dreams right there. So awesome. And best of all you two knuckleheads have done more with 5 bikes over the past 4 months than I have been able to manage out of 2 bik3s. Bravo!!.
And Dale. Gary is right on the money with his observation on aging. Seriously...WTF body? Why cant we get a break and have some aspect actually improve with age...oh yeah...its called wisdom and cash flow. Go Gary!

Locked and loaded bikes all strapped in and heading for the track
html image uploaderas i had done most of the work on the 600 i figured i would be the one to test polot the thing and make sure it would actually go round a corner once it was heading there ! Really pleased to say with stiffer steering damper oil practically new tyres (RS 10) and a good few hours checking, replacing and rebuilding the bike was absolutely A1 and i had no worries handing the bike over to Jubby for session 2.

Forgot to mention at 05:30 it was teaming with rain - could be an interesting day ! Three bikes Gixxer 750 with slicks Gixxer 600 with RS10's and prilla with Alpha 13,s should at least ensure some track time. By session 2 i was out on slicks but wouldnt break any records and Jubby was out on the 600 for the first time. Off the pace a bit running 1.11's and Jubby running 1.12's so not terrible and wow the note on the pipe of the 600 is orgasmic. A local fella in Brisbane manufactures and sells under his Dekavic brand - Tri oval like the Yoshi but half the price !!!
After running on the 600 first i realised just how total shit the standard Suzuki master cylinder is, i ran into the first brake corner (jubbies favourite) the carousel and shit myself, that brembo addex go the 600 really is the bollox, cant wait for mine to arrive hopefully this week then i can add to to the bike along with new rear spring and dialled in suspension before next sat 29th as i am on the track again - will update along with loadingp some footage of last of me and jubster having a ding dong 🤣
Last Edit: Apr 24, 2017 7:14:36 GMT 10 by crazybollox
Was a fantastic day it really was. The video above shows us having a little ding dong from about 7mins.. you cant miss crazybollox red gixer with his white-ish suit.
Was wet early so the 250 got put through its paces as crazybollox is afraid of two strokes and would not ride one no matter what i said. He took the GSXR 600 out as that had treaded tyres and along with the rs which also had treaded tyres.
i had to wait to session 2 when crazy jumped on the other Gixxer 750 with slicks.
Well i thought it would be a relativity easy transition onto the 600 BUT i was wrong. Getting used to the weight and engine braking took some time. i actually managed to only just beat my PB set on the RS250 by x.xxx.x20. So it goes to show that all extra HP does not make you a quicker rider over night. I know my 250 well and ride the wheels off it.
these are comparison videos there is a few fuck ups in here as it was also the first time with GP shift.
So it took some adjusting and i will persevere with the 600 until i can run with the old boy who is currently about 1.5secs quicker at times.
I also ran in the green group all day which was probably a mistake however without touching the suspension at all and having no tyre warmers i felt more comfortable on the day.
