you should feel the diff cold air makes to a two stroke... its fucking insane .. I have always wanted to try inserting an aluminum block into an airbox after it has been frozen to neg 300 deg in liquid nitrogen to see what it would gain. That is a lot of cold dense air! And out comes "The Doc" again hahaha

Get a small oil cooler and fill it with water and then seal it up. Place it in the freezer. Then insert it in the airbox before you go out. If you rigged it right it should flow just about as much air as a nice size opening on the airbox. It would be a form of intercooler.

Alright Dennis, just got back from riding. I think I bedded them correctly. I tried to do my best to follow your instructions but it was tough since I ride in nothing but stop and go city traffic but once I got to the highway, I let everyone by and got up to 65ish, braked to ~30mph then repeated a few times. I also did your optional step once or twice. Then I rode for a few miles without braking to allow the rotors and pads to cool down (plus tonight is in the low 60s/high 50s so everything cooled down super fast). By the time I was home, my rotors were cold to the touch as soon as I got off my bike. Hopefully I did it correctly!
Thank you for the excellent advice. Had you not told me that, I probably wouldn't have bedded them the proper way. Also, I'm not sure if you will but do you recall me posting about that weird whining sound when slowing down and speeding up? I noticed that sound went away after I changed my brakes today. Everything is nice and quiet aside from my normal chain noise and some sort of fairing rattle under my batwing again. I'd guarantee that whining noise was just from my old pads and everything not being well lubricated.

Good work jake2wheels. Read that last paragraph above... only stupid assumptions and more. Im guilty as charged all the time... turn spanners first, fuck it, research, then read manual, then fixed in 5 mins hahahaha

In Chicago this weekend we had some record breaking temps..hit 70 degrees in February! Normally I keep the bikes off the road with all the salt, but with a record breaking streak of less than 1 inch of snow for over 60 days (figures I haven't been able to test the snow tires on the new wrx) the roads are actually clean.
Buddy brought his sv650 over which doesn't get an oil change unless I do it. So we grab a oil filter and I change it with some rotella 15w40 I have for the dirtbike and vmax (fz8 gets mobile 1). Good thing oil is cheap and I have plenty cause I started filling it before I reinstalled the drainplug. All the times changing my oil on various vehicles I've never done that lol. As I'm filling im like fuck, I don't remember putting the plug back in...look over and it's pouring out lol. Stuck my finger in it and probably saved a whopping 1/2 quart of 3 lol.
Head out for a ride on the Fz8 after shuffling all the shit around to get her out of the garage, disconnecting battery tenders and uncovering her.
Notice a friend in his Jeep when I get to the town I'm headed to. Pass him floating the wheel about a foot and a half off the ground. We stop at a light and he motherfucks me for not inviting him out. Just before I get home I float the wheel again in first, it drops and I shift hard into second and it comes up again in second. Surprised the shit out of me cause it doesn't usually power wheelie for me in second. Cool air and winter's rest was good for the old girl 😎

Got a couple of hours on the 480 Sunday. Bit of a cruisy loop but had forgotten how well the bike does at pace in the dirt. It still despises the tar.... It's been to long between rides lately.

Feel so bad for my 8. I have barely touched it since I got my truck other than washing it and covering it the other day. I plan on riding to work tomorrow since the high is gonna be 81 degrees!

My rotors have been showing some possible warped signs..I'm hoping they aren't so I'm going to change my pads and clean my brake calipers...never done brembo calipers but on the brembo they don't even have a locking pin or anything that secures the pads. They are just shoved up and in and lock into place into the caliper...seems easy... yet I know I'll mess it up prolly lol. I'm going to clean the rotors with scotchbrite again... Jake can you post the brake pad knowledge from Dgray? I also went with the EBC HH. I'll try not to do any stops from 160mph since it is still winter here in MN haha.

Jake can you post the brake pad knowledge from Dgray? I also went with the EBC HH. I'll try not to do any stops from 160mph since it is still winter here in MN haha. Pull your rotors. Buy new rotor bolts (heat cycles strwtch and change the metal crystalization structure over time) Take the rotors to a shop that can bead blast the surface to remove the resin build up. Then install rotors with fresh bolts and do a bed in procedure with brand new pads. I can almost assure you they arent warped, just resin build up unevenly. If you are inclined. Pull the wheel with the rotors on. Put the wheel on an axle, a hard piece of wire in a vice (coat hanger). Let the tip of the wire touch the rotor and spin it. If it scores unevenly you have warpage. If it scores the dark spots, you have excess uneven reson buold up. It is extremely rare to warp them unless you are at constant race speeds and braking time after time after time. Or you have had them searing hot and shocked them with cold water. If you cant access a bead blaster...get EMERY CLOTH from a hardware and scuff one direction, then the opposite direction. Create a non directional crosshatch pattern. Then new pads and bedding. Bedding: new pads, clean rotors. Accelerate to 20 ish and apply brakes gently to scuff. Increase speed to 30 - 40. Apply brakes harder but dont stop. Repeat 2 - 3 times. Get up to 50 - 60 and apply brakes hard down to a near stop. Release get right back to speed and brake hard. Back to speed and brake hard. Repeat. Then ride without touching brakes until cool. Since you ride fast and brake hard the next is optional but in your case do it.Get up to 80 - 90. Brake hard until almost stopped, back to speed. repeat. repeat, repeat. I do this at faster speeds just as assurance for me. Then ride a long way until fully cool..... Don't ride spiritedly and brake hard and keep brakes clamped at a stop. This pulls the resins and you have to repeat the bedding and deal with pulsing until the resins are evenly distributed again. If you need to remain stopped, use the rear as your full stop hold brake. If you must stop completely during bedding, stop and release the brakes. Be safe doing it. DG

Not bike related but got rear ended in my truck yesterday. Dumb bitch was on her phone trying to mess with her GPS because she was in a rush to an appointment. Wasn't a high speed wreck but her car bent my rear bumper down. Already filed a claim with her insurance and I'm meeting with an adjuster tomorrow to get an estimate on the damage. Luckily it looks like it's just the hardware that holds the bumper that is bent. The damage didn't even make it to the spare tire frame area.
Even more luckily - I wasn't on my bike. Could have been way worse. Be safe out there guys!

How did humans survive before GPS and phones? .... oh yea!, they planned their routes and concentrated on aimimg their 3,000+ lb guided missles...
Fucking people.
Any consolation, the spouse had just picked up both daughters from school and a guy in a mustang rear ended the Jeep at about 30mph....dicking with his phone. No fault on our side, no impact to premiums. Only bumper damage, spare tire mount and exhaust (thank god for tow hook. His car was fucked. Hood taco'd, radiator burst, front of engine was mangled as was his front suspension (wheels pointing oppside ways...kind of a Steve Beshemi look). Poor bastards police report and ins adjuster report = 100% fault, and ticketed for phone, speeding in school zone and no seatbelt...
I Just want the check, will buy a nice beafy offroad bumper and new exhaust at my buddies cost, spare rack can be heated and bent back (done it when I backed into a tree) Then hang on to the extra few hundred bucks.
Glad you are ok. Sorry to hear your new baby got bent. Doubly glad you werent on the 8. States that prohibit lane splitting should pay attention to the number of bikes being rear ended by inattentive drivers. I always glide up to the front between lanes to avoid a Hyundai enema.
Best. DG

Could have been way worse. Be safe out there guys! look at it like this. now you have extra play money. do what my buddy did. he took the money from insurance which quoted him some thousand dollars or so for the damage to his bumper. he went on craigslist and found one that wasnt in bad shape and changed it himself. in the end he made 600 out of it. I got rear ended a couple of months ago back in november. some kid not paying attention hit me in a red light. his insurance adjuster came out and quote the repairs to my car at 3700 dollars. this is the one and only time owning a mercedes has not royally fucked me because as far as im concerned. my bumper is bent down slightly and has some scratches. it was a very low speed impact and did virtually no damage to my car. it runs and drives just like it always did. plus it doesnt hurt to have a godfather in the autobody industry that happens to do sidework in his garage for a steal. so basically -1000 and im 2700 richer from this poor kids insurance. that one months mortgage for me and then some. i need to do the right thing and put some in savings but who knows. i might buy something pretty. i did just get a 94 325is that is missing a couple of body parts. maybe ill buy something like that. Point is, it sucks!, but try and have a positive outlook on things. does it suck to go through it? yes. Is you car still drivable? yes. will you make some unexpected cash that you can spend on something fun? most definitely!

DG Yeah planned their routes and used a fucking atlas but stopped on the side of the road if they needed to look it over. Or had a passenger check for them. Way safer than these fucking morons using their phones while driving. The only time I ever touch my phone while I'm driving is if I'm at a red light changing the song or using Siri to make a phone call. I'm relieved to hear your spouse and daughters were okay. Glad to hear that dude who rear ended them got what he deserved - I don't wish harm on people but karma is a bitch. The lady who hit me only got a bit of her grill chipped out so I will be installing a tow hitch when my truck is out of the shop. I bet his insurance went through the roof. I wanted to just grab a used Ranger bumper from a junkyard but I put it in the collision center because I want to make sure there isn't frame damage plus they're painting extra than what I was originally quoted which is awesome! Yeah, I really wish we could split here but even if it was legal, car drivers wouldn't be down for it. Ironically, the lady who hit me was in a Hyundai lol
